Site Description:
1948 was a leap year, beginning on a Thursday. More importantly, 1948 saw the creation of the Organization of American States, the Berlin Blockade and the beginnings of NATO, the implementation of the Marshall Plan and the Message to the Europeans, the establishment of the state of Israel, the adoption of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, and the death of Gandhi and Jinnah.... In many ways, 1948 has defined the world we live in today.
We have chosen "1948" as the title of our blog, not only to pay tribute to this important year in international life, but also to indicate our central aim: when addressing the issues of today, it is imperative to look into the past, where one will often find similar issues, and we may learn from the way they were addressed in the past. This blog's contributors have a background in various disciplines: law, politics, economics, and philosophy.
