According to Dr. Ben C. DeSpain's book, REVITALIZING THE PROFESSORATE (2006), beginners in the professorate question the concepts, the processes, and the evaluation instruments used to assess their performance. According to DeSpain, the literature on performance improvement and high achievement regularly reports that a) establishing measures of job expectation, b) providing a clear explanation of expectations c) instituting frequent, consistent, and fair assessment, and d) giving consistent, fair feedback leads to significant improvement in both individual task performance and organizational productivity. Finally, consistency in reporting evaluative feedback is critical in helping to improvement performance relative to the professorate.
