Site Description:
Welcome to 118site.com (pronounce as “one-one-eight-site dot com”). 118site.com went live on 01-01-08. Either you look at it from the American or the British format, 01-01-08 is the first day of the month of January in the year 2008.
Why 118site.com? Honestly, it would have been 118.com if the domain has not been taken by The Number UK Ltd, a directory assistance provider. However, being able to get 118site.com is not bad at all. After all, the word ‘site’ also represent a website or place.
Next thing you might want to ask, why the number 118? Is it because of the date (1st January 2008) the site went live? Well, partly yes… because if you take of the ‘0’s and the ‘-‘s, all you are left with are 118. Besides that, there are some other factors in choosing this beautiful number. Of course, the first as mentioned earlier, being the date this site went live on the 1st January 2008.
The second reason is because the subjects or topics this site will cover are MPV+T (mobility, portability, versatility, and travelity… oops, I mean travel). Well, basically it covers anything that makes one move or when one is on the move. So, what do those have to with 118? Well, it is just a visual representation. You see, put the two ‘1′ together and they represent a pair of legs that naturally enable humans to move around. The ‘8′ represents two wheels as most machines (vehicles) that are able to move from one place to another have wheels.
Third reason has to do with language. 118 is pronounce in Chinese, or Cantonese to be more specific, as ‘yat yat paat’. This sounds close to ‘yat yat faat’ which means prosper everyday. This explains why Chinese community like ’8’ so much as it sounds like prosperous. So, it is hopeful that 118site.com will be a site that prosper everyday J.
Fourth is maths, if you add the three digits, 1+1+8, you will get ten (10). In some sports (especially where points are given by judges), ten is being referred to as complete or perfect which created the term, ‘perfect ten’. The maths does not stop here, when you add the two digits, 1+0, you will get 1. So, in this maths section, 118site.com is intended to be the number one perfect website and stand among the best in the World Wide Web log.
Last but not least, is the 90° section. If you turn both ‘11′ and ‘8′ 90°, you will see them as ‘=’ and ‘∞’. Do they mean anything? Put them together, they mean equal to infinity. So, let’s hope that this site will be around forever.
And, if you have any other idea of interpreting 118, do send SMS to +60162386518. Thanks J
