For more than 20 years, Louise lived and worked in London. In 2002, she and her now-husband bought a pile of granite in the tiny medieval village of Carmine Superiore, high on the mountainside above Lake Maggiore. Together, they set about turning it into a home. Five years, two children, three cats, 24 chickens and a flightless seagull later, and it's nearly finished. And all without vehicle access.
