As some of you know may know, I'm of Africa heritage. Hubby, on the other hand, is Caucasian. To most people, we're an interracial couple. It's nothing I really think about or notice, but other people (occasionally) comment on it. As a result, I'm fairly sensitive to interracial dating. And I recently discovered InterracialMatch.com, an interracial dating website for men and women who are specifically looking for an interracial relationship. The site features people of all ethnicities, ages and socio-economic backgrounds, and it allows you to search by zip code for interacial personals. The user friendly site allows members to send messages to potential dates, and you can join for free. The profiles include plenty of information, such as age, marital status, children, pets, music and movie preferences, political views and more. With this much information, it's easy to find someone who could be a great romantic match for you!

I am Black and Filipino. I grew up in a predominantly Black neighborhood in the melting pot of SF. My boyfreind is Chinese and he is a hip hop DJ. This is my first non Black boyfreind and I think it is wonderful learning and sharing eachothers culture. We do share a racialy united hip hop culture and can connect on many levels. I feel welcome arms from all of his freinds but I just had to express how I feel around his childhood freinds. Often I feel like two of his childhood friends whom are also Chinese are always asserting themselves as the intelectual in the conversation and it makes me feel defeated and I am not out to prove myself to anyone. I am a feeler (in Meyers Briggs and Jung terms) and I consiously try to make everyone feel wekcomed. I know they mean well but one guy even recently tried to sneak in a debate about the 80's term fresh being from the 90's. I argued before mainstream America adopted fresh along with the fresh prince of bell air in the early 90's it was originated in the 80's. I mean his non hip ass was realy tryn to tell me about my culture! Yes there is somethings I might not know, I don't expect to know everything but don't inadvertently belittle me. I find that my boyfreind does this to me to. I'm a grad student, I can hold my own and I shouldnt even add that. You my boyfreind even tried to argue that I make up words for useing pallet - a makeshift bed. Black people use that all the time. Its in the dictionary and why is it that serious that you have to point out yet another thing you think I don't know. This is the first time in my dating history where I have found myself feeling isolated around folks. Not to mention many of my girl freinds have moved away and I have been so much in his world yearning for my own. Everything great about my boyfreind does outway the negative I recall from my previous relationships and I don't think its a black, white, Chinese, or filipino thing. Its just an adjustment I am still adjusting to after five years.
