Good bye Eartha Kitt, the Icon dies at 81
2 comments Published by Name: JaHaute on 12/27/08 at 12:47 AMI think I first saw Eartha Kitt in some old black and white sceen as a kid growing up. She was singing something i cant remember now and all i could think about was how her voice was so unusual, he body so tiny and her smile so warm.
That almost kitten like roll of the tongue, puts a puurrrr in every phrase. He prononciations were beutiful, and I later found out as I grew that she was a dramatic and vivacious woman. She ran away from home at a young age, defied many adversaries and in a time when being one of the only black female perfomers was rare she still managed international success.
And oh, that sex appeal - everyone has been taking notes from Eartha's book. She is a Diva in the true sense of the word and she will be missed.

Aren't these the cutest little gold hoop earrings? handmade and available on etsy for only $14. What more can I say? Simplicity is beautiful and divine.
The Cheat Sheet is an idea so simple its genius, and Just in time for christmas shopping and gift giving!

Its a turntable watch by Fluid Watches, perfect for that hip music lover on your Christmas gift list. This brings back so many great memories of when I used to be a DJ in college. If they had it in a more feminine design I'd be tempted to get one for myself. But perhaps you can think of a male friend who'd love this as a gift.
$64 available at Karmaloop.
Labels: Accessories, christmas, cute find, watch

Avant Garde, fun, quirky, visionary and unapologetic has always been characteristics that I've admired about Grace Jones. She has always been one of my Icons, from her hairstyles to the way she dresses, to even the way she giggles uncontrollably like a teenager in interviews. She is who she is: a living work of art.
I've stopped buying Cd's but Hurricane" is one record that will be worth the plunge back into a dried up buying habit. I've already heard two songs form the Album, "Williams Blood" and "Corporate Cannibal" and it seems like its not been over 20 years since she put out the hit album Night Clubbing. She has done what many artist have failed to do over the years: remain true to herself.
I wish I had tapped her appearance her on French TV of William's Blood. She flashed the crowd in latex underwear, spoke french, kissed a woman guest and it was all fabulous.
Just like only Grace Jones can.
If you buy only one album this year, let it be something that's worth it, think about getting Hurricane.
