Biggest Loser: Coleen is Eliminated

November 18th, 2008 by libbles

This week on Biggest Loser, Vicky carried that same smirky, evil look on her face as Amy tried to apologize to her. Bob told Vicky to make up with Amy to bring peace to the team, but she refused.

It was ‘80s week on the campus and it was a hoot seeing Ali with the crimped hair and Bob and Ed in their extra short shorts. The girls had on Jane Fonda leotards with leg warmers, of course. The ‘80s theme carried over to the challenge. The contestants had to hold half their weigh in water above their heads with a rope while answering ‘80s trivia. If they got it right, they got to add more water to someone else’s barrel. If they got it wrong, they got more water added to their own barrel. The winner got fancy headsets for their entire family, workouts from Bob, and either $5,000 or a one pound penalty to whomever they chose. It came down to Renee and Michelle, with Renee giving it up when Michelle promised to buy her a handbag.

After an almost hour long recap of last night’s Dancing with the Stars, then the final round of the kid’s competition (they are all so good, it makes me sick!), the real results show finally started. Of course, we had to sit through a performance by Aretha Franklin, Leona Lewis, Julianne Hough, John Legend, and then Aretha Franklin again (but this time Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas danced), we found out that both Lance and Lacey and Brooke and Derek were safe.

Despite the judge’s bashing Brooke last night, I wasn’t really surprised by this. I knew it would be between Cody and Warren. Then, as I also suspected, it was Cody that was going home. And Julianne just came back last night! Oh well, he did great for a kid who just graduated from high school.

    Jamster

Tonight was the semi-finals on Dancing With the Stars, and the judges came out with all their claws showing.  In the first dance, Brooke and Derek did quite a good jive considering that her footwork was not good and they finished after the music stopped.  He wore some kind of modified zoot suit, and I was sure she was going to have a costume malfunction.  The judges were loaded with criticism, and Carrie Ann said that the lift* was “blatantly disrespectful.”  Come on - Lance and Lacy don’t know the meaning of “respect” and they get away with anything.  Is there a double standard?  Anyway, the scoring was the lowest Brooke got this year, 21.  Now, when they did their second dance the Salsa, the worm turned.  No one could have asked for more.  It was one hot salsa!  Score 28

Cody and Julianne started off with a paso doble.  It was like watching a mummy dance.  Cody is really trying, but the paso doble is too much dance for him.  Personally, I think whoever picks the music should look for other work.  Their salsa was pretty good, not in the same league as Brooke and Derek, but not bad.  Cody really went all out.  I think he’s come about as far as he’s going to go, and it’s too bad because he is a joy to watch.

At least the music was acceptable for Warren and Kym in the mambo.  She did a lot of shimmying and so did he, and it was not his best dance.  I thought she was going to lose the costume for a time there.  The judges liked it.  They also liked their jitterbug, but to me it looked like almost the same steps as the mambo.  Lots of lifts, he is one strong guy, but I think he also hit his peak. ( Is it me, or does Carrie Ann really faun over the athletes?  She really kisses up to Maurice and Warren. )

What would be better than having one Iron Chef cook for you for Thanksgiving? How about having four cook for you? That is what happened this week as the chairman paired up Iron Chefs Flay and Symon against Iron Chefs Cora and Morimoto. The secret ingredients were items that may have been used in the first Thanksgiving – duck, turkey, leeks, Indian corn, etc. I was hoping Ted Allen would be a judge, but he was floor reporter. Judging was former NFL star Tiki Barber, restaurateur Donatella Arpaia, and actor Lou Diamond Phillips.

Morimoto threatened 10 dishes, but they only served up one more than Flay and Symon. Flay and Symon served up butter-poached lobster with leeks and puffed wild rice (which Donatella said was “beautifully cooked”), fry bread taco with spice crusted venison (which Tiki said was “super flavorful”), duck three ways, heritage turkey roasted on a cedar plank with ancho gravy and cranberry (Lou said he was going to steal that recipe from Bobby), and Indian pudding with cinnamon and nutmeg ice cream.

It was a tough week on Dancing with the Stars – the judges were looking for perfection. Unfortunately, they didn’t find it in Brooke’s jive or Cody’s pasa doble. I’ve never seen the judges jump on Brooke like they did. Carrie Ann said the fact that she did an illegal lift in the semi-finals was disrespectful (shouldn’t that comment have been for Derek the choreographer?) and Len called it a “disaster.” She got her lowest score ever – 21. Bruno said Cody’s pasa doble had no lines and the timing was off while Len called him “stiff and wooden.” Ouch. Cody only faired a bit better with a 22.

Warren’s mambo, even though it looked like he was going to choke her on that one move, got better reviews and he and Kym got a score of 24. Lance and Lacey’s mambo was the hit of the nights. What a hot little number that was! He got his first 10 (from Carrie Ann) and scored 28 overall.

  • Amazing Race: Terrence and Sarah are Eliminated

    November 17th, 2008 by libbles

The teams on Amazing Race left out of India for Kazakhstan on three different flights, but it didn’t matter. The chicken factory they had to go to didn’t open until they had all arrived anyhow, which was good news for Andrew and Dan. The Roadblock, to find a golden egg in the factory, was also a Fast Forward. Nick and Starr and Terrence and Sarah decided to go it, even though Sarah didn’t think it was a good idea. As it turned out, it wasn’t. The teams had to go to a restaurant and eat sheep butt. The bad news was Terrence is a vegetarian and barely ate any. So, after sitting there trying for a while, they had to turn around and go back. Nick and Starr finished and came in first again. I am so tired of that!

After the golden egg, the teams had to take a crane to Koktobe Arch and find Mongel warriors for their next clue. Andrew and Dan got lost, but eventually found the way, right before Terrence and Sarah. The next clue was a Detour – play like mad (learn two instruments and play a Kazakhstan tune) or act like fools (dress as a cow, drink milk, and deliver themselves to the butcher).

    November 13th, 2008 by libbles

I am not really happy with this season of Survivor. It seems like people who should be there (i.e. Ace and Marcus) are gone while people who should have been gone weeks ago (i.e. Randy and Susie) are still around.

Fang won the reward challenge, but not before Matty (is it just me or is he starting to look like Eddie Munster?) and Randy got into it. Why, oh why, is Randy still around? Anyone? Anyhow, Fang got to see a Gabon dance, eat a good meal, and spend the night at a village. Bob went to Exile, where it never appeared to dawn on him that he couldn’t find the idol because Sugar had it. However, he did make a great looking fake idol to try to fool people. Kudos Bob!

  • No Three-Peat for Cheryl on Dancing with the Stars

    November 12th, 2008 by olga

Well, her chances for a threepeat fell by the wayside tonight.  Maurice and Cheryl were the ones eliminated from DWTS.  This was no surprise to me; in addition to his hitting a plateau in his dancing, I somehow feel that the fan base for track stars, even two-time Olympic gold medalists is not that large.  No tears,  no whining just smiles and kind words for everybody concerned - way to go Maurice!

Once again we have a rehash of the rehash, come on ABC, give us a break.  The judges wanted to see Warren and Kym dance their “James Bond” style tango again, and I still can’t get over how light he is on his feet.

For guest vocalist Brad Paisley’s  song, Lacey and her brother Benjy did some kind of honky-tonk jive.  No wonder she works so well with Lance, her brother is the same type of kook, only one who dances better!
