The Sad Passing of Senator Obama’s Grandmother

I was really sad for Senator Obama today when I heard the news that his Grandmother "Toot" passed away on the eve of his historical win.  The saddest part is that she had a considerable roll in raising Barack after his mother passed away.  Sadely she won't be able to share in his victory tomorrow night.

For those of us that believe our loved ones look down on us after their passing, there is no doubt in my mind that she surely will and will be very proud of her grandson and how far he has come.

Loosing a loved one is never easy and neither is running for President of the United States. I hope that Senator Obama finds calm and strength during this tumultuous and historic time. And, I pray that his Grandmother is at peace and makes a smooth voyage to the other side.

Why Barack Obama?

Why I am for Barack Obama?

There is no other candidate that can turn this nation around.  There is no other candidate that can pull our nation out of this economic crisis.  There is no other candidate that will get our nation out of this illegal war.  There is no other candidate that will ensure affordable healthcare for ALL Americans.  There is no other candidate that will work positively to restore our nation's standing in the world.  There is no other candidate that will serve to bridge differences in our nation.  There is no other candidate that will ensure the rights and dignity of all citizens and non-citizens. There is no other candidate that will restore the honor of the White House.  There is no other candidate that will see to it that our nation doesn't engage in torture.  There is no other candidate that will ensure that privacy of our nations citizens is protected.  There is no other candidate that will make us all proud.

Elizabeth Dole: The Sleaziest Senator in Congress

Elizabeth Dole thinks that lying about a candidate’s faith makes her “Godly” and “God Fearing”.  Even Dole supporters can't deny that her new ad shows a shocking level of desperation.

Apparently incumbent Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) has fallen behind Kay Hagen in the latest tracking poll, so in a desperate attempt to tar her opponent, Dole issued a slanderous ad calling Hagen “a Godless American” saying she took “Godless Money". In the final second of the ad, a voice screams out “there is no god!” which deceptively attempts to make voters think that Hagen said it.  It is fabrication at it's lowest.

I know a lot of Christians, good people, who would never lie about someone for personal gain.  Not so for Elizabeth Dole and others like her, so desperate to keep their seats in Congress.  It is a sad commentary when a proven unethical and ineffective candidate like Elizabeth Dole attempts to slander a good woman with fear and hatred.

Anyone that questions the faith and patriotism of another American for solely political gains deserves not to be a representative of the people.  Hopefully North Carolinians will reject Elizabeth Dole and her toxic lies.

Who is Barack Obama?

Who is Barack Obama? John McCain and Sarah Palin keep asking that question. That's why we put together this behind-the-scenes video, so you can see Barack and Michelle as they really are.

McCain calls Obama "That One", supporters threaten Obama's life

So McCain shows the class that he doesn't have. It is really not all that surprising as the McCain-Palin ship continues to sink. So desparate McCain supporters have become, they continue to ramp up their hateful and inciting rhetoric and have even resorted to threatening the life of Senator Obama.

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee is now wearing the "That One" insult like a badge of coolness. Fox News has it.

Keating Economics: John McCain and a Financial Crisis

The Obama Campaign has just released a new ad titled "Keating Economics: John McCain and a Financial Crisis" on their You Tube channel.  They will be following the release of this short video (below) with a full documentary to be released at 12 noon on Monday at www.keatingeconomics.com.  Be sure to tune in.

Transcript:

The current economic crisis demands that we understand John McCain's attitudes about economic oversight and corporate influence in federal regulation. Nothing illustrates the danger of his approach more clearly than his central role in the savings and loan scandal of the late '80s and early '90s. John McCain was accused of improperly aiding his political patron, Charles Keating, chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association. The bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee launched investigations and formally reprimanded Senator McCain for his role in the scandal -- the first such Senator to receive a major party nomination for president.

At the heart of the scandal was Keating's Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which took advantage of deregulation in the 1980s to make risky investments with its depositors' money. McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating with federal regulators tasked with preventing banking fraud, and championed legislation to delay regulation of the savings and loan industry -- actions that allowed Keating to continue his fraud at an incredible cost to taxpayers.

When the savings and loan industry collapsed, Keating's failed company put taxpayers on the hook for $3.4 billion and more than 20,000 Americans lost their savings. John McCain was reprimanded by the bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee, but the ultimate cost of the crisis to American taxpayers reached more than $120 billion.

The Keating scandal is eerily similar to today's credit crisis, where a lack of regulation and cozy relationships between the financial industry and Congress has allowed banks to make risky loans and profit by bending the rules. And in both cases, John McCain's judgment and values have placed him on the wrong side of history.

The guest:

Dr. Richard Sagebiel is a pathologist in dermatology and co-director of the UCSF Melanoma Clinic. Sagebiel examines tissue from biopsies to determine if cancer cells exist and if so, the type and severity of the cancer.

Sagebiel joined UCSF Medical Center in 1970, helped to start the first Melanoma Clinic in 1971 and joined the faculty fulltime in 1978. He earned a bachelor's degree at Yale University and medical degree at Harvard Medical School. Palinism and the Culture of Life

In an interview with CBS's Katie Couric on Tuesday, Governor Palin touted her belief in the "culture of life". She said, "I would counsel to choose life. I would also like to see a culture of life in this country." But when it comes to animals like wolves, Sarah Palin believes in savagery and a culture of death.  How can she have it both ways?

Anniversary of the Saffron Revolution

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of when government troops began their brutal crackdown against Buddhist monks who had been leading public protests and marches through the streets of cities across Burma.

If you could do one thing, what would it be? Sign a petition, write a letter, or make a donation? How about watching a video?

Palin, GOP Make Plutocrats Happy

The Sarah Palin choice, pandering as it may be, is brilliant.  Brilliant on the part of John McCain, because the guy seems to have never had a brilliant idea in his whole life.

What I like about the choice of Sarah Palin, as his running mate, is that she is actually more popular than McCain himself.  Yes, there has never been such a stir in the Republican Party.  The Far-Right Conservative Wing that is. You know those that cling to their guns and religion.  Far-Right Conservative Palin has done wonders for them, because the Liberal McCain is so unpalatable to them that they probably would have voted 3rd party.  Now the GOP might even have a chance to get the “Moral Majority” to turn out in November.

Watching Governor Palin’s speech, I gained one thought.  The smarmy, pretentious blabber of this prima Donna was insight into why they call her “Sarah Barracuda” and why she likes to be known as a “Pit bull in Lipstick”.  The most revealing comment had to do with the insult Governor Palin lodged at Senator Obama regarding his work as a community organizer.

I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities.

As someone who has worked as a community organizer myself, I didn’t really feel insulted.  In fact, I have grown accustomed to Conservative Republicans putting down work people do to help those that are less fortunate.  Palin’s remark about Community Organizers actually made me happy.  “Why?” you ask.  Take it like this. Republicans often act as though they care for the poor.  They rail with idle speak about those that are disadvantaged invoking their deity to respond, all the while cutting programs and services to those who need them most.

What Sarah Palin revealed in that brief couple sentences was her actual feelings on the poor and the true platform of the GOP.  It is the notion of, “pull yourself up by your bootstraps (even if you don’t have any) and piss on all those poor people and those that help them.”  With the close to 40 Million tuning into Sarah Palin speak on Wednesday, I sincerely hope the majority were independents.

By majority, the American people don’t think the way Sarah Palin, John McCain and the GOP do.  In fact, in these tough times many of them may even be being helped by community organizers or be working as community organizers to help others in need. One thing is for sure, they don’t deserve the mocking and denigration witnessed this week at the GOP Convention.  And one more thing is for sure, if the GOP keeps it up, Americans will be saying en masse in November, “thank you very much, but no thank you”.
