Brian Eno and David Byrne recently finished a new record called "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today". For the most part, Brian did the music and David Byrne wrote some tunes, words and sang.

The Wasp Woman

The Wasp Woman is a 1959 science fiction movie directed by Roger Corman.

Janice Starlin (Susan Cabot) is the founder and owner of a large cosmetics company. When her firm's sales begin to drop after it becomes apparent to her customers that she is aging, she decides to serve as human subject to Scientist Eric Zinthrop (Michael Mark), who has been able to extract enzymes from the royal jelly of the queen wasp that can reverse the aging process. Displeased with the slowness of the results she breaks into the scientist's laboratory and injects herself with extra doses of the formula. As a result she gets twenty years younger in a single weekend, but soon discovers that she is periodically transformed into a murderous queen wasp.

Gwon Osang

Gwon Osang born in Seoul in 1974 is a famous Korean contemporary artist. He is well known for groundbreaking works as a sculptor and gained widespread fame with his sculptures made using hundreds of photographs to create a life-sized sculpture. He first exhibited this type of work in 1998 with his first show in 1999.

Tim Burton early films

Tim Burton is an acclaimed film director, who has created many great films, such as: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Mars Attacks! (1996), Batman Returns (1992), Edward Scissorhands (1990) and also wonderful animations like Corpse Bride (2005) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).

The Tim Burton Collective is a website with News and articles related to Tim Burton and his work, it has also information related to his early movies.

One of those early movies is Vincent (1982), a stop-motion animated movie shot in beautiful black and white, it was based on a poem Burton had written himself. The short film tells the sad tale of Vincent Malloy, a suburbanite boy who wants to be just like his idol, Vincent Price, the narration was provided by Vincent Price. Vincent was released on a small number screens by Disney, who were unsure how to market the morbid little film. Though few people saw it at the time, it played well at festivals and ultimately acted as Burton’s calling card in Hollywood. Thanks to you tube now it´s possible to everyone watch Vincent.

Another early Tim Burton movie is Frankenweenie (1984). An affectionate black and white homage to Frankenstein and other monster movies. Burton came up with the story, which tells the tale of a young Victor Frankenstein living in a typical suburb. When his beloved dog Sparky is run over by a car, Victor brings him back to life with science. However, in time-honoured monster movie tradition, he is misperceived as a threat to the community. But it all ends happily when the suburbanites realise Sparky is a good dead dog, and help return him to life a second time. Unfortunately, the film never saw a release at the time. Disney had planned to screen it before a re-release of Pinocchio, but that plan was cancelled when Frankenweenie was given a PG rating, making it “unsuitable” for younger kids. In 2000 Tim Burton created a series of 6 cartoons about a superhero called Stainboy which the only talent he seems to have is to leave a large stain. The Tim Burton Collective has the complete collection of Stainboy cartoons here.

Thomas Broomé

Thomas Broomé, is a Swedish artist who made a collection of ink illustrations called "Modern Mantra" where the scenes are made using the names of the objects being drawn to create the illustration.

He also made a series of locusts using cut-out and folded Coca-cola cans, a painted polymer sculpture of a man shot from behind, a dog and cat fused together where the dogs head furiosly chases the cats tail, and many other works.

Why Rubik's cubes ?
I feel it's a logical, and interesting, continuation of my work. Like Space Invaders, the Rubik's Cube is an 80s game made from colored squares. It's a fascinating object, as it's both extremely simple and extremely complex. Did you know there are over 43 billion possible permutations for a Rubik's Cube? I use the Rubik's Cube like an artist uses paint. I like the idea that it wasn't intended to be used this way, and that ultimately it works really well.

Do you show your work in institutions or galleries?
Yes. What you can see in the street is only part of what I do. I like to switch from one to the other, it's a way of doing different things. Right now I'm working on a project that uses Rubik's Cube, the Eighties cult puzzle, as the basis for pictures and sculptures. I call this my "RubikCubist" period.

Midnight Express

Midnight Express is a 1978 biographical film, directed by Alan Parker, based on the book of true accounts of Billy Hayes, a young American sent to a Turkish prison for trying to smuggle Hashish out of Turkey to the US. However movie deviates especially in the portrayal of Turks from the book to a level to be criticized by many including Billy Hayes himself.

Billy Hayes was interviewed in 1999 Cannes film festival. This interview (part 1, part 2) reveals the truth behind the story of the movie "Midnight Express".

The Fookin Short Version

The Commitments is a 1991 film directed by Alan Parker from the novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle, which tells the story of some unemployed Dubliners who form a soul band. The film was an international co-production between companies in Ireland, the UK and the USA.

Some of the band members from the movie (including the bassist and the original drummer) have since formed a group that tours under the name The Commitments.

The film runs for 113 minutes. In that time, the word "fuck" is used 145 times. Now you can watch a shortened version of The Commitments movie on You Tube. It's called "The Fookin Short Version".

Lars-Erik Fisk

Lars-Erik Fisk is a graduate of the University of Vermont art department, Fisk has worked as an independent artist in Burlington and New York City, and as artistic director of the band Phish.

Since 1996, he has created a series of large, spheroid sculptures that refer to specific objects, buildings, and vehicles.

The works merge pop and minimalist sensibilities with a playful sense of humor and impeccable craftsmanship. Fisk’s earliest works in this series are, among others, Street Ball, Tree Ball, and UPS Ball. Later works in the series included architectural and vehicular subjects, such as Barn Ball and School Bus Ball, and his newest piece, Volkswagenball.

Yoshihiko Satoh

Yoshihiko Satoh is a Japanese artist Born in 1968 in Saitama Japan. In 1993 he Completed M.F.A at Tokyo National University of Fine Art & Music.

He has participated in several Solo Exhibitions in Tokyo and Group Exhibitions in Tokyo, Gunma, Fukui, Seoul, Yokohama, Nagoya , Osaka and Berlin.

One of his works consists of a 12–necked stratocaster-like guitar connected to a Fender amp and is called "Present Arms" which won the Grandprix at the 2002 Kirin Art Award.

Mystery of Picasso

In 1955, French director, Henri-Georges Clouzot made a film with Pablo Picasso as he painted 20 artworks.

One of the scenes was made using time lapse photography, and shows an oil painting being made step by step.

The French government also liked the film, and in 1984 declared The Mystery of Picasso National Treasure.

Space Art

Some attendees at FOO Camp event in Sebastopol in California had the information that google was going to do a flyover of the campus during the event date, so they took the opportunity to make some interesting art projects that would subsequently be visible from Google Maps and Google Earth, one of the projects they made is a scene from "Space Invaders" and the other a "Cylon raider".

The rumour is you'll be able to see the result using google maps or google earth sometime in the middle of February.

Art Army action figures

The Art Army action figures are homages to the killer art and artists that rock our world.

Instead of making boring normal art, Michael Leavitt is paying tribute to great people and work.

Wrigley's Extra Smile

This cup is part of the Wrigley's Extra Smile campaign, where a sticker was positioned under coffee cups from starbucks, giving all coffee drinking persons an extra white smile.

The Toronto Plastic Surgery campaign also used a printed cup to advertise teir services.

The white teeth cup campaign reminds me of the baby pacifier with teeth.

Andy Ward

UK artist & illustrator Andy Ward studied painting at the Norwich School of Art before moving to London, where he spent 8 years freelancing for editorial & advertising clients. These days Andy works out of Venice. His focus has broadened to include toy design, animation, jewelry & fashion.

He currently has a weekly slot in The Independent, The Sunday Telegraph, & a monthly slot in the Observer national UK newspapers.

Roman Klonek

Roman Klonek, born in Kattowitz/Poland, came 1972 as a very small child to Germany, became fast addicted on Comics and lost himself briefly into cryptic scribblings. Thousands and thousands of drawings later, in Trier, in the middle of the 90's, he discovered a giant and beautiful printing-press of the type Karl Krause, Berlin 1910. That was the beginning of a great friendship.

Hanoch Piven

Born in Uruguay, resident during his teen years in Israel and art educated at the School of Visual Art in New York, Hanoch Piven now resides in Barcelona.

His initial success has been as an Editorial Illustrator with a long list of publishers going back over the last ten years and it is largely through his editorial personality caricatures that Piven has honed his skills.

In the words of Steve Brodner, one of America’s top caricaturists, “The art of caricature has been reinvented by the deft hand, unique vision and sharp wit of Hanoch Piven” Of one of Piven’s caricatures, he wrote, “It’s impossible to think of Barbra Streisand without that famous nose, but to turn it into a microphone is the special Piven touch that manages to combine simultaneously the visual and technical expression in a most amusing manner. Of course, you slap your forehead. That makes so much sense.”

His collected portraits are now published by Pomegranate in a book, Faces by Hanoch Piven: [70] Portraits from Madonna to the Pope and is the first collected publication of his works even though his work has been seen so widely in in the pages of Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Entertainment Weekly, and The New York Times. Organized into categories of profession (TV, Film, American Politics, Icons, Music), the faces confronting us from these pages reflect the essence of each famous person they portray, sometimes in such a minimalist way that a blank face needs only a mouth (made out of a bullet, in the case of Clint Eastwood) to define the personality. Madonna, Yassir Arafat, Larry King, Fidel Castro, Bob Dylan are just a few of Piven's celebrities whose personalities are colourfully exposed through his incisive interpretations.

Unorthodox Taxidermy

Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, was a famous American writer and cartoonist best known for his children's books, particularly The Cat in the Hat.

The Art of Dr. Seuss offers a rare glimpse into the artistic life of this celebrated American icon and chronicles almost seven decades of work that, in every respect, is uniquely, stylistically and endearingly “Seussian.” Works in this collection have been reproduced from significant public and private collections, including the University of California San Diego and the Estate of Dr. Seuss.

Dr. Seuss embarked on an ingenious project in the early 1930s as he evolved from two-dimensional artworks to three-dimensional sculptures. What was most unusual for these mixed-media sculptures was the use of real animal parts including beaks, antlers and horns from deceased Forest Park Zoo animals where Seuss’s father was superintendent.

Unorthodox Collection of Taxidermy was born in a cramped New York apartment and included a menagerie of inventive creatures with names like the “Two Horned Drouberhannis,” “Andulovian Grackler,” and “Semi-Normal Green-Lidded Fawn.” Shortly after Seuss created this unique collection of artworks, Look Magazine dubbed Seuss “The World’s Most Eminent Authority on Unheard-Of Animals.” To this day, Seuss’s Unorthodox Collection of Taxidermy remains as some of the finest examples of his inventive and multi-dimensional creativity.
