The World's Worst Website - Is your website ready to review?

Here at Red Helmet, we’re a merry little bunch of people who love our jobs and exceeding customers’ expectations- it makes us smile making them smile. And they usually give us tea and cake.

Sometimes however, people want to build their own websites- which is fine, you know where we are if you ever need any help! This week's blog is especially for those of you who are bravely building your websites alone for the very time or have finished your own website already and need some feedback of some kind.

We're often asked to give people feedback but sometimes are deluged with questions, so as a result we've compiled a small check list of the questions we usually ask for you to apply to your own website.

Useful Websites: Credit Card Number Generator

How-To: Manage Your Facebook Page

Facebook Pages are still relatively foreign to most of us, but the most important thing you need to remember is that your Page is in many ways, simply a personal profile. Page owners can log-into their Page and go and socialise with others, in the same way that you use your Facebook Profile with your friends; you can like, share and tag statuses and photos, publish events and upload videos.

If you're new to Twitter, it can be a little daunting if you only use Facebook usually, and more so if you haven't used any form of Social Media media before- but don't worry, it's not brain surgery, anyone can get their head around it and before her departure from this mortal coil, Ivy Bean was Twitter's oldest user at a rather grand 104 years old.

How-To: Choose your Website Colours & Fonts

Whether you have a business premises or are simply operating your website from the spare bedroom, the style of your domain creates your first impression, and colour is a very important consideration.

Different colours appeal to different genders and different personalities, and if your website is still within the construction stage, now is an excellent time to do some market research and ensure that how you’ve chosen to visually represent your company appeals to your customers. With the information learned from this you can go on to design the correct logo as well as the correct colour scheme with the same principles.

How-To: Provide Fresh Content

Some business owners are sadly under the impression that once a website for their company has been designed, constructed and optimised, then it will run itself, so all they have to do is sit back and wait for the money to come rolling in.

How-To: Email Marketing & Newsletters

Email Marketing, once it's been set up, is very easy way to communicate with your customers. It is possible to rely on the usual methods of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+ of course, but the purpose of your website, and your company is to target as many people as possible. We hate to break it to you but in this day and age, there's still plenty of potential customers out there who won't touch those 'standard' platforms with a twenty foot pole.

If you need us here at Red Helmet to help you manage your Facebook Page, or you need to make one of your friends or work colleagues an Admin, here's your step-by-step cheat sheet to help you get the job done:

How-To: Nosy at global webcams!

When it’s raining outside and there’s nothing on TV, fire up the computer and have a look at some more exotic locations via some of the many webcams located globally. You could even go as far as playing Albatross by Fleetwood Mac in the background, so you can get the full sensory experience.

Earthcam is one of the many website where you can go and see some of the wonders of the world from the comfort of your own house- from the Elvis Wedding Chapel, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square to Niagara Falls and the African Plains, there’s hundreds of location themed webcams for you to view.

How-To: Get Customer and Visitor Feedback

Ask and thee shall find is a very true statement, especially in the world of website promotion. If the nature of your company involves regular customers purchasing products and services from you, take time to get to know them and ask them what they would like. Plenty of people are often flattered by this request as you are clearly interested in hearing about their experiences with your company and acting on any changes or requests that they might have. This is also a good way to gauge trends that may be occurring in your industry- it may even help to identify a gap in the market that your competitors have not yet discovered.
