Doin’ the Happy Dance

Okay, I’m so excited, I can’t not bust a gut on this any longer! Next Thursday I’ll be packing up and heading to Atlanta for our first ever Pixel Chicks Workshop! If you’re a regular to the blog, you’ve heard me talk about my group of ever so talented photographer friends - I’m so proud/in awe/amazed by them. They are my inspiration, my backbone, my daily dose of sanity and I cannot wait - like, more excited than a kid on Christmas morning - to see them!!!

We have so many things in store - a night shoot, a boudoir shoot, a maternity shoot, a baby shoot….suffice to say, it’ll be a packed 4 days but just the thought of it has me doing the happy dance (just in case you’re not sure what the happy dance looks like).

Here are some of the chicks I’ll be hanging with - check out their awesome work!

You can also check out our fledging :( blog here…we’re working on it, we’re working on it! We all are insanely busy like so many other working mamas out there so, what can I say? It’s on our To-Do list! fo sur fo sur!

Once Upon a Time..

…this was a true statement, but alas, no more (sigh). It’s been rough. If you remember, I made a promise to myself (post here) for 2009; one simple, unadorned, solid promise: work on balance in my life, meaning, less computer, more exercise, more sleep which means, of course, less caffeine, etc., etc.

I’m happy to report that thus far, promise kept (mostly - there was one carrot cake incident which I’m completely blameless for since I asked - quite emphatically - that it be thrown out but was completely ignored and being it’s my FAVORITE sweet ever, how was I to resist? Total cruelty, if you ask me). I am a gym regular and even signed up for 12 weeks of Gravity classes which, OH MY GOSH - okay, let’s put it this way - the first time I took it I couldn’t lift my arms above shoulder level for four days without squeaking like a rusty lost shopping cart. Refined sugar, cheese and enriched flour have been banished from my kitchen. And as far as computer time -I have gotten much better I think about knowing when enough is enough. Sleep comes first. It’s a rule I’m trying to internally digest until it becomes habit.

And caffeine. Starbucks. Yes, Starbucks and I are taking a break. I’ve decided it’s not a heathy relationship no matter how amazing it seems. It’s been a seriously painful, sad break. I still visit occassionaly, but it’s not the same. Grande nonfat lattes compared to venti americanos and muffins…ya know, just not feelin the love as much. Ah well, time to move on. :)

Crazy in Love

It’d be fair to say I’m crazy in love with Valentine’s Day. First, it’s about love; secondly, everything is red. Red is my favorite color in the whole - wide - world and although other holidays share red, none encapsulate it quite so thoroughly. Yes, I love Valentine’s Day…which is why, even as I tucked away the last of our Christmas decorations this weekend, I was already thinking about it and all kinds of fun V-themed photo ideas.

Okay, so in case you missed this - because I love it so much, and because there are SO many fun things to do with Valentine’s-themed images, we’re having a very cool promo this month that you can check out here.  And to get the party started, here’s a few fun images with a little fashiony twist.

Hope everyone’s Monday was fab-ulous! :)

Little Vampires

Why do kids do this? I’m not really sure but Zsa sure took a good hit on this one while in daycare at the gym. He’s not blameless - though I love my little man, I also know he’s a big instigator. Still, hurts my mommy heart seeing vampire “love” left on his face.

And speaking of little people and their cute faces…

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Ah, but to be Queen 4 a Day…

I’m surrounded. Absolutely, completely surrounded. As I look outside at the gray, overcast winter day, I know this is a perfect day to be doing this. Business has settled down for a few weeks in the post-holiday exhalation and with the ringing in of the new year, there is no better time. And it’s so rare for me to get free days, let alone free moments, so truly, this is the time.

And yet, if someone hollered at me, I’d be out of here, like - pronto. Like, in a flash (please holler!!!)

Yep, I’m sitting surrounded by invoices, receipts, bank statements, credit cards statements….bla-blah, bla-blah, bla-blah! It’s the dreaded tax prep, end-of-year paper fest. One which I would (my accountant would kill me if she read this) gladly, thankfully, happily, joyfully, ecstaticly pass on, give away, do away with every year if I could! She tells me to embrace it. She tells me (I think she secretly moonlights as a motivational speaker) to learn it all, grasp it all, have a steady handle on it all. And as a business owner, I recognize the shrewdness of this advice. I do. Honestly. I get it. Thoroughly. Thoroughly.

But that doesn’t mean I have to like it!!! And man, I’m putting a whole new definition to the statement ‘don’t like it!’

Sigh. And then in one of my several moments of distraction (can you say procrastination???) I saw this image I took yesterday of my daughter holding up her new backpack and thought “wouldn’t it be nice to be queen for a day?” Someone to do everything. Me to do nothing. Usually, that’d drive me crazy but today…well…ahhhh, it does sound nice.

And a total side note of random craziness, I’ve become re-addicted to a song to old to be re-addicted to and yet it lives and thrives still and so, I’m putting it on the blog. Let’s go ol’ school today. :) Rock on.
