The Guardian U.K. | Police will use new device to take fingerprints in street
This is such a technocratic draconian measure I don’t even have to tell people how bad this is going to end up. Has anyone in the U.K. even watched V for Vendetta? It’s just ridiculous. After it seems all objective study has show the cctv initiative to be impotent and ineffective, they push the barrier of privacy again with this new system of control. Problem is none of this will provide any security. It just helps the technocrats to track and catalog everyone’s life. They are seeking absolute control mechanisms.Air Force creates new pilot programs for drones - Yahoo News
Robot planes. I love new efficient tech like the next guy, but uh; has anyone in the Airforce watched the terminator movie series? Just a thought. We will soon be engaging in war by proxy, and it will lead to high death tolls not lower ones. Mark my words I give it a decade this is going to backfire. A.I. will be our undoing. We cannot live our own lives properly should we really be creating another species? A mechanical or bio mechanical species? How long before they decided we are too flawed and inefficient for existence?

Govt. biometrics use still raises privacy concerns | Politics and Law - CNET News
This should always raise concerns. Credit information cannot even be protected currently, so why is their such a push for more personal information housing? As a social scientist I think the push for more invasive data mining and gathering of the private info by corporate & public entities, will only lead to a Orwellian corporate police state. Don’t think so? Ask yourself when is the last time you saw a movie about a highly controlled technological society in the future where things were good, so good you wanted it now. Matrix=wack. Minority report=Wack. Gattaca=WAAACK. A.I.=Wack again. These technologies coupled with increasingly artificial intelligent machines will be our new tower of Babel. This time the powers that be, aim to have us all standing underneath it when it comes crashing down.

Scientists question terrorist-hunting techniques - CNN.com
I have always said these types of technology are a means of controlling law abiding citizens and not a means of catching criminals. They are dubious at best, and with the paranoia of the past 7 years have been allowed to go on, and be implemented without any data on if they work or not. But each time a system is installed it takes away rights. You cannot trade freedom for security or you will loose both. In the U.K. recently they concluded that all the cctv cameras didi little to deter crime, but they still did not take them out, they are still operational. The public sphere does not mean government sphere. We should not be watched 24/7. How is that different from a communist or fascist police state?

Germany takes hot seat as Europe falls into the abyss
This getting really hectic. I hope all the fat cats have gotten all they can because they have tanked it for the rest of us. This crisis is of global proportions, the pain we will have to endure the rights we will have to give up to get through this will probably change civilization as we know it for the worse. CNET: Bailout Lets IRS Snoop But Loops In Greentech
There had to be additions to this bill. Paulson and Bernake could not have been given that kind of power Cart Blanche. But to swell from 3 to 400+ pages is crazy. The same thing we hear politicians speak about, name erroneous provisions & pork is the only reason the bill passed in the first place what a travesty. Now this bill provides more police powers to the IRS with little or no oversight. First the CIA runs amock, then FBI gets to do whatever they want, then Police can set up check points in “at risk” neighborhoods, and now the IRS gets to act like DEA! Thank you Mr. Bush for our new shiny POLICE STATE. P.S. Where is Bin Laden?
:: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Homeowner links cameras to city cops
These things always start out with the simplest of intentions. After the long laundry list of liberties we have all given up in the wake of 9/11, why would we give anymore away? In the U.K. there is video surveillance everywhere. Literally they are the most watched citizenry in the world. But studies have shown that crime rates have not gone down, and the cameras have become so ubiquitous that they are no longer a deterrent. Yet law enforcement insists it is working when all credible evidence is to the contrary.
The Orwellian Police State sought by governments world wide only seem to back-fire. Traffic cams in many states may be uninstalled at intersections not because of safety issues but because local governments have found out that they are impacting one of the most lucrative profit centers, namely tickets. It amazes me how much time and effort is put into the end results of poverty v.s. trying to stamp out the reasons crime happens in the first place. That just seems more economically efficient.
Reuters: Fashion Week Hardly Any Black Runway Models
I hate to see this. This has been a long standing situation. I think the black models are being used by the top designers like accessories. Sometimes they are in style, some times they are not. It is a known problem that has persisted for years. I say vote with your dollars. Don’t support anything that does not support you. Rappers should not give free advertisement anymore to these fashion houses that turn around and diss the people. We have heard in the past from certain designers that they don’t make clothes for urban people. Believe them the first time they say something. They should not have to prove their stance to us more than once. Also if you are a major player like Jay-Z stop talking your business. When you were dissed by Crystal, you should have quietly formed a holding company and over the period of several years. Bought all the best grapes in France. Thats how you make people play on your terms. LOL.
