This is the third feature “Charlottesville Deathmatch” where we put two or more similar businesses, places, restaurants or things into a sealed cage of pain, suffering and death. Ultimately only one contestant lives and it’s up to you to figure out who that is.
We have a bunch of sandwich places in this town, just waiting to to be forced together, into a heated mess of aioli, cold cuts and toaster ovens. It’s a wide open battle which includes contestants of all builds and skills. We have everything from bagels to hoagies and just plain old white bread. Now it’s your turn to decide the best sandwich place…
What's your favorite Charlottesville sandwich place?
We just discovered the name for the new cafe in the former Milano space in Main Street Market will be “Calvino Cafe.” The construction is still ongoing. According to the promotional card, we should expect coffee and espresso as well as smoothies, breakfast paninis and wraps. The website is not up yet, but the card says things should open in December. We’re excited about this one.
WCAV reports the Hope Community Center is holding a clothing and toy drive for local families in need. This is a great opportunity to clean out your closet/attic and/or your children’s playroom. I think we all need to feel little hope the way things are ending this year, so lets help out!
Organizers are looking to collect warm clothing like sweaters, jackets, and pants for all ages from infant to adult. Joshua Bare says, “Lots of people need a chance and they need that hope and so us distributing clothing is giving hope a chance, it’s giving hope a hand. It’s rebuilding confidence in their life”.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated the site, so it’s probably better to recap local news in one fell swoop. We’ve got lots of things to talk about, from ski season, to economic hardships and death studies. Here she goes…
Alan Scherr, 58, and daughter Naomi, 13 died in the Mumbai terrorist attacks. They were visiting India as part of a spiritual program associated with the Synchronicity Sanctuary which is about 15 miles away from Charlottesville. Alan and Naomi are survived by their mother and two sons.
My siblings and I piled into the car yesterday for one more package of dinner rolls and a smoke break when the craziest thing happened. My stepbrother slowed to let an older black gentleman cross the parking lot and I heard him murmur something under his breath. Something that sounded like nigger. My little sister giggled and said, “I was thinking the same thing in my head!” to him as I stared at both of them in shock.
From all the cVillain admins to our readers, thank you for making this website the most exciting thing on the internet. We couldn’t do it without your eyeballs, your comments, your articles, or your love.
Thanks again everyone. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! We love you all.
Does anyone do stuff really out of the ordinary for Thanksgiving dinner? I know a handful of families that cook something than Turkey as their main course, but I’m mostly interested in what sorts of side dishes your family/friends prepare that are out of the ordinary. Let’s share unique recipes and salivate over the catatonic gluttony of tomorrow.
Some interesting turkey and thanksgiving factoids after the break…

The job requires strong personal skills, high levels of organization and someone with an entrepreneurial spirit. The director of business development will be responsible for managing accounts, creating campaigns and doing marketing for Spicy Bear Media. We provide at least double the commission of other media sales positions in town, so if you are getting scared about your salary in 2009, now would be a good time to contact us.
