Those Moments that Make it All Worthwhile

Well, to start I have to say I’ve sort of moved on to a different chapter in my life.   I love blogging and hope to continue, but only when inspired.  I’ve embarked on a new path - freelance writer.  All of my current writing time is now spent in finding work, writing for clients and some fiction whereever I have time.  I do hope my readers will continue to subscribe to my feed as I’ll try to update every couple of weeks.  I want to thank you all for your support - many times I would have given up if it weren’t for the lovely comments.

Now, last night I was in the kitchen making dinner.  J and I had a challenging day together - as in he challenged everything I said.  I was also feeling a bit blue having had to cancel fall travel plans to visit family (the economy and cost of airfare were enough to tip the scales).  Anyway, my precious little four year old must have known I was feeling sad because he drew me a picture of him and I and a truck,  Then he wrote (without dad’s help) “TO MOM, JADEN” I was just so touched by this gesture, unprovoked.  My crummy day became wonderful again.

October Rolls In Like A Pumpkin

It’s amazing how quickly Mother Nature catches up with the calendar.  Every year I hope she’ll lose track of time just like I do and forget to change the seasons.  In September we were wearing shorts, and now that it’s October I need to pack away all of our summer gear and make room for [...]

Doom and Gloom? Are we facing another Great Depression?

I’m wondering today what our forefather’s felt before the onset of the Great Depression.  Were they as aware of a crisis unfolding as we are today?  Are we even fully aware of what’s going on in the world?  Is it really all doom and gloom or a scare tactic?  I don’t really have any of [...]

A Conversation in My Car

Son: Mommy, if Santa leaves coal for bad kids, what does the Easter bunny leave?
Mother:  Rabbit poop.
And after the giggling subsides:
Son:  Is that the worst he can do?
Mother:  Well it’s not so bad unless you think it’s chocolate. (Okay, I know but if you can’t beat ‘em…)
Son: Mom, now that’s just rude.
Yikes, I just [...]

Top Ways in Which We Know there are Children in the House

This week I’m brainstorming for an article I’d like to write - the Top Ten Ways in Which One Can Deduce a Person has Kids.  I’d love for you to submit your ideas on this - here’s a few of mine.  I’ll be the first to admit that the following all occur on a regular [...]

Puree Your Own Baby Food - Save your Pocketbook and Reduce Waste!

For the first two months of my young son’s “real” food eating, I purchased baby food in <gawp> plastic containers.  There’s no excuse I know, except that we are travelling a lot and homemade food is difficult to safely transport and heat on the go.  I did save the jars for the eventuality of making [...]

One Woman’s Diet Secret

I am going to say this in as forthright a way was possible - I have no will power.  If it’s in my house, I will eat it.  At this point, I can still stash my treats (licorice, chocolates etc) without my son finding them - and so the treats are all mine.  I enjoy [...]

Blueberry Picking with a Four Year Old

‘Tis the season for canning, pickling and - jamming.  Last year my excuse was “I’m pregnant” - and I’ll be damned if I’m using that excuse this year, so I had to suck it up.  Canning and preserving is simply saving my family money with the added bonus of picking fruits and vegetables from organic [...]

White Shorts + Boy = One Bad Idea

First of all, I am a blogger in the truest sense of the word….I have a mound the size of six large loads of laundry sitting beside me (seriosly, it’s taller than I am), I’m wearing a child and prompting the other he has 15 minutes left of quiet time.  Did I mention the 10 [...]

A Little Something I’ve Learned About Blogging

I promise you I am still here!  In my absence there are a few things I’ve learned about life, and blogging.
1.  Summer is not a good time to blog.  In fact, summer is so much busier than winter I can scarcely keep up! There’s soccer, and weeding and preserving food for winter, and painting and [...]
