Weird But True & Bizarre * Odd News

I’m sorry but I’m stopping my blog again.

Posted by Capri on October 8, 2007

I’m really sorry to be doing this again. I thought I could handle it this time around but I can’t. I always feel guilty to not update everyday as I use to. But for almost a year my wrist and arms and neck and back all ache and become painful when I’m on the computer. I’m sure I’m at the early stages of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I will not close my blog down completely because many still come back to certain threads to talk to friends. But trying to find all the stories and the right pictures do take many hours a day that I could handle before but now I can’t. I had started another blog almost three months ago making my own MySpace layouts — http://mymyspacelayouts.wordpress.com/. I didn’t say anything here yet because I wanted to wait until I had a larger amount of layouts to show. It doesn’t take up as much time making them and being on the computer and I can be a bit creative too. You can find me there or at MySpace. You can visit these other weird but true type sites where I got most of the stories posted here where they usually update everyday. :D I’m trying not to cry but thank you to everyone that followed me starting at Blogger, Deansplanet, and then here at WordPress. Love you all!

New sketch as to how a young William Shakespeare might have looked like looks like Harry Potter.

Posted by Capri on October 4, 2007

This police e-fit may look like a cross between Harry Potter and Frodo Baggins, but it could be what William Shakespeare looked like as a teenager.

The image is an impression of how the playwright may have appeared aged 14, the same age as thousands of school pupils studying his plays.

Metropolitan Police artist Cathy Charsley used her training in “age progression” to create the picture, but in reverse.

Using the police’s standard e-fit computer, she created an initial image and then compared famous portraits of the Bard to craft her final impression.

Details such as the curly hair and earring were also added to give the image the “spirit” of a young Shakespeare.

It was commissioned by the education department of Shakespeare’s Globe in London, which is using it to launch its winter season of events.

Ms Charsley said: “I have been trained in age progression for my job, so I worked in reverse, deciding how the face would be different if aged 14, and what features were important.

“Young Will is my personal interpretation, based on my knowledge of faces and how they change.”

Patrick Spottiswoode, director of Globe Education at Shakespeare’s Globe, said: “We asked Cathy Charsley to imagine what Shakespeare may have looked like at 14 - the very age that all students in England and Wales have to sit a Shakespeare exam.

“The result is fascinating but disturbingly like Harry Potter.”

Woman is $100,000 richer because of cheating ex-boyfriend.

Posted by Capri on October 4, 2007

* Elisa Kwon and Greg Calvino *

A hard-partying Wall Street trader and his ex-girlfriend are in court over an allegedly broken $100,000 promise to keep on the straight and narrow.

In recently filed court papers, Elisa Kwon accuses her former beau Greg Calvino, 45, of reneg ing on a pledge he had made to not “use drugs, stay out late, frequent strippers or prosti tutes.” The 30-something Kwon insists Calvino had vowed that if he ever did any of those things again, she could cash a $100,000 check he had made out to her.

After Calvino’s allegedly debauched boys’ night out at a strip club in March 2005, that’s just what Kwon did.

But a fuming Calvino filed suit in Manhattan Supreme Court in late July to get his money back - plus interest, legal fees and damages - claiming the whole thing is an extortion attempt.

Calvino claims Kwon had threatened to go to his bosses at RBC Capital Markets, where he was a stock trader at the time of the intemperate night out, and make up tales of drug use “with strippers and whores.” He claims he wrote the $100,000 check to protect his career and reputation, and that she cashed it for no apparent reason.

But Kwon, in a motion to dismiss filed on Sept. 20, said Calvino’s drug use and wild ways with women entitled her to the money. She said she cashed the check in November 2005, after he went out with fellow RBC traders to ogle the girls at Flashdancers and do cocaine that March.

What’s more, he failed a store-bought drug test of his urine, she claims.

In an affidavit, Kwon attached what she claims is the text of a long instant-message conversation she had with Calvino in which he appears to cop to doing drugs and visiting strip clubs and tells her to keep the cash.

After initially writing that he was “sorry I was irresponsible last night - but I didn’t do the bad stuff,” and that he was not “stupid enough to jeopardize our future,” Calvino explains he was only “drunk/bombed [on] Jack [Daniels],” according to the text transcript.

Kwon reminds him of the “$25 Rite-Aid” test - “it’s POSITIVE.”

Calvino then appears to blame one of his trading buddies: “He put it in my face.”

Later in the instant-message exchange, Calvino confesses to going to Flashdancers after a charity event with four colleagues, the text shows

An RBC spokesman did not immediately comment.

An apparently contrite Calvino later writes to Kwon, “A promise is a promise,” according to the text.

He also allegedly writes, “I didn’t hold up my end of the bargain,” and “If you want to keep my money it’s yours to start anew.”

Calvino, who has since moved to Thomas Weisel Partners, did not reply to calls or e-mail requesting comment. His lawyer also didn’t return calls.

Kwon did not reply to an e-mail seeking comment. Her lawyer, Zachary Margulis-Ohnuma, declined to comment.

Calvino and Kwon, who dated for two years, broke up in April 2006.

Man’s penis struck by lightning!

Posted by Capri on October 4, 2007

A Croatian motorbiker’s penis was zapped by lightning as he stopped beside the road to take a leak.

Ante Djindjic, 29, from Zagreb, said: “I don’t remember what happened. One minute I was taking a leak and the next thing I knew I was in hospital.

“Doctors said the lightning went through my body and because I was wearing rubber boots it earthed itself through my penis.”

Djindjic, who suffered light burns to his chest and arms, added: “Thankfully, the doctors said that there would be no lasting effects, and my penis will function normally eventually.”

Woman lives as a man for 8 years to escape prison.

Posted by Capri on October 4, 2007

Taiwan police have arrested a female criminal who has been on the run disguised as a man for eight years, press reports said.

Chen Hui-fang, 33, was convicted eight years ago of armed burglary and internet fraud. She was given a term of 12 years in prison but failed to turn herself in to serve her sentence.

The court issued an arrest warrant for Chen, but she had gone into hiding, disguised as a man and using a forged identify, several newspapers and broadcaster reported.

Chen, who looks masculine, disguised herself so well that even her girlfriend did not know that “he” was a she.

To convince her girlfriend that she was man, Chen tied a fake penis - a condom filled with cotton - between her thighs, press reports said.

Over the years, Chen continued to commit crimes and was caught once, but police released her after questioning.

When she was caught again Monday, police realised that Chen was using a fake ID card and did not look like a man, because Chen had no Adam’s apple and had no hair on her upper lip.

When police threatened to take Chen for a medical examination to clarify her sex, she admitted her identity.
