Martial Arts Blog : Boxing and Martial arts

Posted on Wednesday 27 August 2008

Do any one feels that Boxing should be regarded as a martial art?

In my opinion, boxing can be regarded as a martial art in sports level, just like the judo, sanshou (sanda) etc. But it cant be regarded as a well martial arts thing since it lacks many many area which a common martial arts will have, one example is to kill, and to heal… What do you think? Please  post your opinions as comment.

Martial Arts Blog : Martial arts Torrents downloads -vs- Martial art Rapidshare / Megaupload links

Posted on Tuesday 11 December 2007

Martial arts torrents -vs- martial arts rapidshare / megaupload links - Fight for the best download option.

For a long while i was thinking about the free martial arts download section, powered up by torrents where people can download martial arts videos torrent, free martial arts training videos torrents, free martial arts movies torrents, torrents of martial art related free ebooks, etc. Going through the legal aspects, and considering the risk, i was thinking for an alternative for the martial arts torrents download section. One option is that having a rapidshare, megaupload type file sharing system for the purpose. So as an alternative for martial arts torrents i was planning to have a section nourished with free martial arts rapidshare or martial arts megaupload links. But the problem is that they are also vulnerable to legal issues.

So let us sort out a safe way to share and download martial arts movies, martial arts books (e-books), martial art videos, martial arts theme musics, martial arts documentaries, articles, ring fights ( ufc, k1, pride fights, etc), martial arts tournaments (traditional martial arts tournaments like Chinese wushu tournaments, karate tournaments, etc), martial arts instructional videos, other tutorials, etc.

To download martial arts movies, documentaries, and martial arts instructional videos , i prefer martial arts torrent files rather than rapidshare or megaupload, or what ever file sharing portals. These movies and training videos are of huge size. Some times these martial arts training videos comes in multiple CD / DVD packs. It may come up to a huge file size to download. So i think that on that case better if it is martial art torrent file. And if it is martial arts books scanned or in pdf / doc versions then i think rapidshare is better. Another thing is that , if there are not much feed or seeds for that particular martial arts torrents, then it will be better if we choose rapidshare, megaupload, etc for downloading. What about you then?

And please note that that idea for a martial arts torrents sections is never been killed.

Accepting comments from martial artists and non martial artists for safely running a megaupload and rapidshare martial arts download section instead of a martial arts torrents section…

Your suggestion and valuable information for the development of Online Martial Arts Courses & Classes

Hi all,

Before i planned to start the www.worldofmartialart.com. I have sort out many things. One among those free services for the Martial Arts world is a Learn online system - Free Martial Arts Online Courses. Yes Online Martial arts training classes for free of cost. I had made a study on this Even though we didn’t yet received any funds, we are maintaining the site with much effort. There are many works pending in this martial arts site. Many sections are kept untouch. The most public (both martial artists, and martial art loving laymen) interest is on Martial arts torrents download section and online martial arts training section. The reason for the martial arts torrent site is easily understandable.

And ok, now what am talking is that what are your suggestions about the online martial arts class? Should the course be general, or MMA (Mixed Martial Art) or any traditional fighting systems like Chinese kung fu, Japanese karate, Muay thai, Indian kalaripayattu, etc. Or courses on different martial arts. Kindly give your valuable suggestions. Together we will build up an online martial arts community.

Martial Arts Blog: Difference between kung fu and wushu

Posted on Tuesday 2 October 2007

Difference between kung fu and wushu

Kung Fu is a collection of martial arts, developed in china (actually from china, Tibet, Hong Kong, etc also). Today the word kung fu is used to represent all the Chinese martial art styles such as Wing Chun, Tai chi, Baguazhang (pa kua), Xing yi( Hsing I), Hung Gar, Hop Gar, Choy Lei Fut, Hop gar, fanzi quan, Baji quan, Lau Gar, etc. In traditional kung fu schools the students learned both empty hand fighting techniques, weapons, chin na (joint lock techniques), shui jiao (Chinese grappling ) and chi kung (Chinese internal development system for cultivation of chi), etc and some times some spiritual concepts and a good philosophical background. Wushu is a sports version of kung fu. Wushu was intellectually developed by the communist government of china after 1949 mainly to ward off the real martial art practice. Wushu is a mixture of many Chinese martial arts. It literally means warrior art. Kung fu literally means great hard work or the result in a person’s attributes or skills due to a prolonged hard work.

Later the wushu is divided into two, taolu and sanshou (sanda). Taolu covers many routines like tai chi, changquan nanquan, jian shou, etc. San shou is sometimes called Sanda or Lei tai and it concentrates 100% on fighting aspects especially for Tournaments.

Martial Arts Blog : Martial Arts Torrents

Thoughts on developing a Martial Arts Torrents sections for martial arts training videos, martial arts movies, martial arts documentaries, martial arts books, etc

I was thinking about starting a martial arts torrents portal on this site for sharing martial art related materials like martial art training videos, martial art movies, martial art documentaries, martial arts books (martial arts e-books as pdf, doc, etc), etc. But one thing that stops me from investing in that subproject is the violation of copyright and pirating. Sharing martial art knowledge for free is a good thing. But the martial arts movies and books are developed by the effort of many people who expect to make an earning from it. Isn’t it a bad to do this violation? Forget about the legal things, analyze after from inside the coat of ethical behavior and dharma.
Another way of viewing is that, those martial arts are no ones property, and so and so and so which will implies that its ok to share. Any way, please comment your idea about sharing martial art related materials. Some times great comments will make me push or abandon the plan to create a free martial arts torrent section.

Martial Arts Blog: Taoist Reverse Breathing Exercise

Posted on Saturday 29 September 2007

Taoist reverse breathing exercise.

The Taoist Reverse breathing exercise or reversed breathing technique is the the opposite of normal breathing. Taoist reverse breathing is a breathing technique practiced in Chinese kung fu and by chi kung (Qi gong) practitioners. Basically it help to clean our internal system by effective circulation of oxygen. It also helps to remove the free radicals from the body. In Chinese martial art (kung fu) styles like bagua zhang (pa kua chang), tai chi chuan, etc and chi kung (qi gong) the reverse breathing is practiced to cultivate the chi energy (internal energy). In some chi kung (Qi gong) systems it is mentioned that this will increase the fire elemental power in our body.

Instructions on doing the Taoist Reverse breathing exercise

Firstly stand relaxed with your feet in shoulder width. Your shoulders must be relaxed, given a little bit awareness to the shoulder joint and observe internally how it is connected with the arms before you start. Likewise try to observe your whole major body joints at once and feel the relaxation with a clam breath before you start. Now relax your mind and swallow your chest . Put your tongue in a way that it lightly touches the upper roof of the mouth and tuck in your chin. Tilt up your pelvis correctly. And now you are ready to begin with the reverse breathing part.

As i told before, this is done just by reversing our ordinary breathing method, which may be one of the most primitive things that we learned. Ok, now you are breaking the rules!, … hey, just kidding…

Begin the breathing exercise by exhaling through mouth. By exhaling, you must clean-out the air by expanding the stomach, the sides of the stomach and the back side of the stomach, that means all the part of abdomen itself. After that inhale slowly and steadily through your nose and at the same time pull-in the stomach. And also you should lift up the the perineum with the inhalation. Now exhale the air through your mouth and at the mean time push out your stomach and let your perineum relaxed. Do all these things gently and relaxed. Don’t ever get tensed up while doing this reverse breathing exercise. This breathing exercise can be used while on “zhan zhuang“, the ’standing meditation’. And like this taoist breathing exercise, we can also use the Buddhist breathing exercise along with zhan zhuang meditation. Zhan zhuang is very powerful and is practiced in many kung fu schools. This will boost up the cultivation of chi, the incredible internal energy.

And a final note on the taoist reverse breathing exercise.

The above taoist reverse breathing techniques is a moderately advanced breathing technique that is taught in internal martial art styles of Chinese kung fu and in internal health systems like chi kung (qi gong). This must be learned and practiced under the guidance of a true master. Unscientific means of practicing will lead to many health problems. Cases are there that self practice of reverse breathing in wrong way, newly invented versions of their own , or even from well known martial arts and chi kung centers had lead to diseases like hemorrhoid, high blood pressure, hernia, problems with stomach etc. So before starting doing it from net, book, training videos or even before joining a class, be alert of this.
